What Do I Need To Get Started?

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO GET STARTED ?

Some of the things you will need, and not necessarily in this order, are:

A PLACE TO WORK.

You don’t need a industrial sized work area to get started, but if you live in an apartment or rent a room it might be rough. If you own/rent a house with a driveway and  or garage,  you should have enough room to clean the cars and make minor repairs. Make sure there are no ordinances in your city or town that would prevent you from doing work on your own car in your driveway or garage.

MONEY.

You dont need a lot. It will depend on the type of car you are looking for and the condition of the car. A few hundred to $2500 should get you started.

A TOOL SET.

While you don’t need the tools that a body shop or service shop would have,  you will need a basic set of tools (some wrenches, sockets, screwdrivers, etc)  for minor repairs.

A CLASSIC CAR PRICE GUIDE.

There are several price guides on the market. Some you can get free, some you’ll have to pay for. You can also use local newspapers and online sites as price guides.

A LITTLE BUSINESS SENSE AND A DESIRE TO MAKE MONEY.

You don’t need a degree in business, but you will need  to keep track of your expenses ( your purchase price, parts necessary to make minor repairs) and make sound  decisions on the cars you purchase. You have to WANT to make money.

You have to treat this as a business and not buy cars on personal choice, but rather what you know will sell. You can have all the knowledge in the world, but if you’re not willing to get out there and do some work, you won’t be successful.
